Job description
This tenure-track professorship is funded by the "Bund-Länder-Programm zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses".
The research area of the professorship is artificial intelligence methods for social assistive robotics. The goal is to develop the degree of autonomy of robots so that their interactions can be adapted to human needs and abilities. Research includes reflection on opportunities and limitations of AI in assistive robotics. In doing so, you build bridges to the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) through joint research topics.
Possible research topics include continual learning of personalized human-robot interaction strategies, role allocation in human-robot teams, trustworthiness and explainability of decisions, technical implementation of ethical guidelines in real-world assistive robots, and application-oriented technology assessments of assistive robotics in human-centered applications, for example, in the care domain.
The professorship contributes to an appropriate extent to the teaching of the KIT Department of Informatics both for the German-language mandatory courses as well as in the elective area. This requires the willingness to learn the German language if necessary. The professorship is associated with a teaching obligation of 4 hours before and 6 hours after the successful evaluation. You will actively shape your research at KIT and your own further development and will independently supervise doctoral candidates and students. In doing so, you will combine a cooperative working method with strong communication skills.
