Open Postdoc position - (bio)informatician, biochemist, molecular biologist, (bio)statistician (m,f,d) - TV-L E13, 100%The Biomedical Informatics and Genetic Phenotype Redefinition of Phenotypes Research Group (Prof. Dr. rer. nat. David Ellinghaus), Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology (IKMB), Kiel University (CAU) and University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), Kiel, Germany, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher with background in statistical epidemiology and/or machine learning (ML) for genomic Big Data studies in biomedicine.
Our focus is on the application and development of new methods and software to create a new molecular genetic atlas for chronic inflammatory diseases and to achieve improved (re)classification of patients for personalized prevention, lifestyle or therapy recommendations.
We are closely associated with the Department of Computer Science of Kiel University, the Comprehensive Center for Inflammation Medicine (CCIM) and the DFG-funded Competence Centre for Genomic Analysis (CCGA) Kiel and are part of the DFG-funded Cluster of Excellence “Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation” (PMI). This collaboration has already resulted in over 100 mostly high-level publications with and by our working group.

- You will develop and apply novel bioinformatics approaches to perform genetic-molecular studies to identify causative genes and alleles that drive disease development in disease-relevant cells and tissues. You will use genomic data from large patient collectives in combination with other omics data and data from clinical information systems.
- You will assist us in the training of medical life science and/or computer science students.
- University degree (MSc.) and a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, biochemistry, molecular biology, statistics, or a closely related field.
- Solid knowledge of statistical epidemiology/genetics, machine learning, and/or data mining techniques from your time as a PhD student/postdoctoral researcher.
- Good programming skills in R and/or Python or a similar programming language.
- Strong English writing and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
