What You’ll Do
The auto industry is currently undergoing a fundamental shift to exploit the latest development in software, information and communication technologies and high-performance electronics. BCG believes that this shift will dramatically re-configure established players, lead to new winners and intensify coopetition in the rapidly changing ecosystem of auto manufacturers, auto suppliers, established tech companies and startups. Today, more than 90% of innovation comes via software, generating up to a $7,500 improvement in margin per car through an increase in realized prices and a reduced bill of materials. This comes on top of $2-2.5 billion in savings and margin potential across OEMs’ value chain. The total market size for Software and Electronics is expected to reach close to half trillion USD by end of this decade, unlocking trillions of USD in end user value. Particularly, China is establishing itself as a world leader thanks to advances in artificial intelligence and related technologies that enable advance Autonomous Driving, next-generation immersive experiences and new business models as e-mobility.

As a DigitalBCG Consultant or Project Leader, you will also help our automotive clients successfully navigate this software-driven transformation that is rapidly revolutionizing the industry.
What You’ll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)
We’re looking for exceptional talent from consulting or industry to join us. You would typically have:
- a degree in computer, IT, electrical, telecommunications or software engineering; or physics, mathematics or mechanical/industrial engineering with strong knowledge of software and IT
- +4 years’ of experience working:
- with a leading consulting firm focused on technology/software initiatives for auto manufacturers
- in an auto-manufacturer or auto component supplier focused on technology/software initiatives (technology strategist, software product owner, technology/data architect)
- in a tech start-up in the auto industry, focused on information technology and software innovation
- good knowledge in any of following areas will be particularly considered:
- Software lifecycle management and R&D (incl. software innovation, development, testing, deployment and management)
- In-vehicle software architectures
- Over-the-air architectures (OTA, FOTA, SOTA)
- Commercial automotive Cloud solutions and platforms (e.g., Microsoft Connected Vehicle Platform, AWS Connected Vehicle Solution)
- ADAS and autonomous driving technologies
- Connectivity and telematics
- Infotainment product development
- Car commercial Operating Systems (e.g., Google Automotive Services, Android Auto, QNX)
- In-vehicle middleware
- Electric/Electronic (E/E) architectures (with good understanding of differences between centralized, distributed, domain based, etc)
- System-on-a-Chip (SoC), electronic control units (ECU), domain control units (DCU)
- Artificial Intelligence/Machine learning for car functionality
- Sensors, actuators, controllers
- Auto cybersecurity
- fluency in English and German required
On a day-to-day basis you will:
- work jointly with BCG and high impact client project teams, bringing expertise to the team and to the client on site
- work independently at a module level on select software-related topics for auto clients
- support case teams, especially those with need for deep expertise and a hands-on approach
- contribute to the quality of the work, question results with sanity checks and with the project team
- educate and inform clients proactively about state-of-the-art software-related technologies, methodologies and tools and how they can bring value to their business
- delve deeper into specific areas of expertise within the DigitalBCG and Automotive practices and expand your expertise
You’ll work with
Our consultants within DigitalBCG are an integral part of BCG’s core consulting team; we work side-by-side with all practice areas to create value & competitive advantage for our clients. Your team will include senior BCG leadership, teams of BCG Consultants, and both junior and senior client leaders working collaboratively to drive the transformation, and shared services/control functions. In this role, you’ll collaborate with BCG team members from many backgrounds and disciplines in a team-oriented, relationship-driven environment. Working alongside some of the world’s top minds on cases that reshape business, government and society, you will increase your understanding of complex business problems from diverse perspectives, and develop new skills. At the same time, you’ll partner with senior clients, taking on the role of trusted advisor, and work at all levels of the client organization to find and execute value creation strategies that result in meaningful, enduring impact.
