Duties

  • Performs work that requires full professional knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of librarianship to select, organize, preserve, access, manage, and disseminate information associated with public/patron services.
  • Provides all members of the Military Community and garrison library staffs with reference/research support using text and online searching principles, reader’s advisory/selective dissemination of information.
  • In addition to the above provides circulation, programming and library instruction, marketing/public relations, interlibrary loans, and an up-to-date web presence.
  • Performs technical services functions including acquisitions, procurement, receiving, cataloging/classification, physical processing, distribution, and accountability of materials.
  • Performs automation services including ILS maintenance and workstation and network support. Develops and implements long-range, collection development plans for the library within the parameters defined by the supervisory librarian.
  • Monitors fund allocations within assigned department(s). Supervises assigned staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A master’s degree in library science, information services, or information management from an accredited college or university. Additionally, one (1) year of progressively responsible work experience is desired which showcases the ability to perform patron/public services, technical services, and/or library automation service functions. Must be familiar with office software products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Must have the ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Highly Qualifying Criteria:

Library Experience: The successful candidate should have at least 24 months of progressively responsible experience working in a library setting.

Program Development: The candidate should have 12 months of experience with generating and executing library programs, including story time, book clubs, STEAM programs, and music as literacy tools. The candidate should be able to demonstrate their ability to develop and implement engaging and innovative programming that meets the needs of diverse communities.

Collection Development: The candidate must have at least 12 months of experience performing collection development duties, including selecting, acquiring, cataloging, and managing library materials. The candidate should also be familiar with current trends and best practices in collection development, including incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion in collection development.

Leadership Skills: The successful candidate must be comfortable leading a team of library technicians in accomplishing a patron-focused, welcoming, family literacy programming schedule. The candidate should be able to demonstrate their ability to lead and motivate a team, delegate tasks effectively, and manage projects to completion.

Technology Skills: The successful candidate must have a high level of proficiency with office 365 products and their use in enabling office automation tasks in the support of the library mission and its administration. The candidate should be familiar with library management systems and motivated to incorporate technologies commonly used in library settings.

Community Outreach: The candidate must have experience in cultivating community partnerships through proactive outreach and in-depth research of community services to better understand patron needs and offer programs to fit those needs. The candidate should be able to demonstrate their ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with community partners, including local schools, community organizations, and other government agencies.
