Firmware Engineer – Fieldbus Development (m/w/d)

For this position in firmware development of fieldbus devices in our ABB PLC automation system, we are looking for an experienced electrical engineer, automation engineer or computer scientist who is familiar with the most common fieldbuses found in today’s automation and has knowledge of industrial automation. This is your chance to take on technical responsibility - from concept to specification to implementation and commissioning. Your responsibilities

• Firmware development of PLC fieldbus devices in C
• Communication stack integration (e.g. Hilscher netX) in existing or new FW to be implemented
• Concept development and documentation for future fieldbus integrations and fieldbus extensions
• Creation and maintenance of fieldbus specific device description files for manufacturer independent integration of Fendbus automation devices
• Development of test strategies or test specifications for the qualification of the developed fieldbus products
• Support/consulting for test executions of the product and system test team
• Concept development and setup/commissioning of development-accompanying fieldbus interoperability tests (incl. third-party systems)
• Preparation and execution of fieldbus specific certification tests
• Supervision of the execution of regular external fieldbus certifications
• Level 4 Support and assistance of ABB Technical Support PLC
• Troubleshooting / fault isolation, and subsequently their elimination in the FW
• Coordination of fieldbus specific PLC library development according to IEC61131
• Coordination with adjacent development areas, such as: PLC firmware, Automation Builder software,system tests and type tests

Your background

• Completed studies in the field of electrical engineering, automation technology, computer science or a comparable field
• Several years of professional experience in FW or hardware related SW development and PLC programming according to IEC61131 with Codesys or similar. PLC programming applications
• Experience or knowledge in the application and configuration of fieldbus systems for industrial automation such as PROFINET, EtherCAT, Ethernet IP, Modbus TCP, Profibus DP, CAN / CANopen
• Experience or knowledge in the application of "System on Chip" solutions, such as Hilscher netX very advantageous
• Very good communication skills and experience in working in an R&D team with the adjacent areas of hardware, software development, system test and type test, as well as product management
• Very good communication skills, intercultural openness and experience in working in an internationally distributed R&D team
• Solution-oriented work style, high motivation and a strong sense of initiative
• Good command of written and spoken English; basic knowledge of German required
