Around 8,500 employees ensure that holistic patient-oriented management and nursing care is delivered consistently according to recognized quality standards over 45,000 inpatient episodes, through 1400 beds, and 200,000 outpatient attendances per year.The Institute of Clinical Pharmacology - Research project "Prediction of individual phase transition in drug-induced metabolic liver injury" within the framework of the joint research project of the University Hospital Aachen on "Metabolic injury as driver of organ-dependent phase transition" - are seeking aPhD Student (f/m/d).The position starts on 1st January 2023 and is a part-time position (25,03 hours/week/ 65%) funded for the period of 3 years (IZKF funding).As a PhD student, you will work on a collaborative project at the University Hospital Aachen that deals with drug metabolism in patients with liver diseases.
  • Carrying out drug analytics to determine metabolic phenotypes by LC-MS/MS in human biomaterials
  • Establishment of methods for quantitative concentration measurement of specific drug substrates as well as endogenous substrates of relevant enzymes of the cytochrome P450 system
  • Pharmacogenetic studies and evaluations of drug-metabolising enzymes
  • Documentation of medical data and follow-up using databases
  • Completed university studies in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, pharmacy or a comparable degree programme with a bioanalytical focus
  • Practical experience in laboratory work, especially in quantitative LC-MS/MS analysis including method development and sample preparation
  • Good knowledge and experience in the use of databases and software for data processing and analysis (e.g. MS Office programmes, Access, R, SPSS)
  • Good to very good knowledge of English in the biological and medical field (Level C1)
  • Practical experience in LC-MS/MS analysis of (human) biomaterial, especially plasma samples desirable
  • Practical experience in the validation of analytical measurement methods desired
  • Experience in data analysis and handling clinical data
  • Programming skills
  • Interest and joy in scientific work
  • Interest and pleasure in working in an interdisciplinary team
  • Willingness for interprofessional cooperation
  • High ability to work in a team and good work organisation
