The Faculty of Chemistry, Physical Chemistry I (Prof. Dr. Angelika Kühnle), has the following job opening:

Research Position

The research group “Physical Chemistry I” at the Faculty of Chemistry is led by Prof. A. Kühnle. We investigate molecular structure formation at surfaces and interfaces using high-resolution atomic force microscopy both in ultrahigh vacuum and at the solid-liquid interface. Our main research is focused on mineral surfaces with an emphasis on understanding key environmental and geochemical processes at the molecular level. The open position is funded by an on-going DFG project on ice nucleating mineral particles.
We offer training in a highly motivated research team with state-of-the-art methods and modern equipment. We seek to hire an outstanding PhD candidate with high motivation and passion for research.
Your Tasks
  • investigation of ice nucleating minerals at the atomic level using high-resolution atomic force microscopy and other relevant experimental techniques (70 %)
  • publication of research results in scientific journals (30 %)

The employment is conducive to scientific qualification.

Your Profile
We expect
  • successfully completed scientific university degree (e. g., master’s degree) in chemistry, physics or a related discipline
  • research background in physico-chemistry, solid-state physics, surface science or related fields
  • advanced skills in designing and performing physico-chemical experiments
  • good English language skills (written and spoken)
  • independent, self-reliant and committed working style
  • strong organizational and coordination skills
  • cooperative and team-oriented way of working
Preferred experience and skills
  • knowledge of processes at mineral surfaces in contact with aqueous solutions (dissolution, growth)
  • advanced experience in presenting own results at project meetings
  • experience in working in international project teams
  • German language skills (written and spoken)
