The Role 

 

Tesla is seeking a dynamic and creative Machine and Electrical Engineer with a focus on Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) implementation and support to join the Global Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Team and who contributes to compliance, risk reduction and increase performance for Gigafactory Berlin operations.  

 

Reporting to the EHS Operations Manager for the Gigafactory Berlin, this role drives projects and initiatives in alignment with Tesla’s global EHS vision, values and principles. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and works to identify and address opportunities on their own as well as with other EHS leaders and team members. The ideal candidate takes pride in their analytical abilities, organizational and leadership skills. They appreciate an environment where superior work is encouraged, noticed and rewarded. 

  

This position will be based in Berlin, Germany area and will require some limited international travel (up to 10% of the time) to Tesla’s North American and EMEA operations.  

What You’ll Do
  • Evaluation of machine conformity according to the machinery directive 2006/42/EC and the applicable regulations such as DIN EN ISO 12100 as well as active support and being involved in Tesla internal machine processes for all machinery
  • Implementing Exposure Protection (e. g. ATEX) procedures, and develop related concepts
  • Implementing and follow up on Machine safety related procedures (e. g. control of hazardous energy, lock out tag out) and implementation status using the Risk Assessment as a base document.
  • Development of safety concepts to avoid and reduce hazards and risks
  • Support in the selection of safety technology for machines and processes
  • Validation of existing declarations of conformity as well as plausibility checks of documentation for new machinery
  • (Preliminary) acceptance of machines at suppliers’ prem

What You’ll Bring
  • University Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience of minimum 3 years in industrial manufacturing
  • Experience with the application of EU directives as well as related harmonized standards. 
  • Extensive experience in plant safety and in conducting the conformity assessment process for CE marking of machinery. 
  • Knowledge of explosion protection / preparation of explosion protection documents
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of the evaluation from safety-related control systems according to DIN EN ISO 13849
  • Ability to build and maintain relevant local and global stakeholder relationships in a challenging and fast paced environment.
  • Able to identify and work on business-driven needs, EHS Strategy or emerging risks.
