THE ROLE

As a member of the Wella R&D organization, the (Senior) Principal Toxicologist provides expert support during all stages of a product’s life cycle, with a focus on new product development. This role reports to the Director of Product Safety and will be based in Darmstadt, Germany or Morris Plains, NJ, USA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the Product Safety department in business initiatives and technical projects as an integral member of multifunctional teams.
  • Prepare safety assessments for cosmetic ingredients and finished (hair) products for pre-market and market release.
  • Generate and evaluate toxicity data with emphasis on (Q)SAR analyses, read-across approaches, and in vitro assays, including study monitoring.
  • Identify potential safety concerns with chemical substances, analyze relevant habits and practices data, create market safety profiles, and manage safety-related external relation issues.
  • Handle in-market safety questions and issues in collaboration with colleagues in Product Safety, Regulatory Affairs, R&D, QA, Legal, and Commercial departments.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or M.S. in biochemistry, chemistry, toxicology, or related disciplines.
  • Work experience with safety assessments in chemicals, cosmetics, and/or healthcare sectors.
  • Experience with in silico methods and non-animal safety approaches.
  • Structured, self-responsible and solution-oriented way of working.
  • High customer and service orientation.
  • Distinctive "Business Sense", agility and healthy pragmatism ("hands-on mentality").
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written.
