The European XFEL is a Free Electron Laser with unprecented opportunites for photon science experiments, largely thanks to its driving superconducting linear accelerator. The bunch repetition rate of this accelerator allows in principle the implementation of an X-ray oscillator. The feasibility of such an oscillator will be studied experimentally within a 3 year project. A demonstrator setup will be built and commissioned at the end of one of the SASE beamlines. The PostDoc position is situated in DESYs accelerator group MXL and will deal with the specification, execution and analysis of the actual beam experiments. This will involve extensive numerical studies, that are to be embedded into the ’standard’ simulation framework.
- Take on a leading scientific role in the project
- Perform numerical simulations and embed the relevant X-ray oscillator physical models into the existing simulation tools
- Closely interact with DESY and EuXFEL groups in solving technical and scientific challenges related to the X-ray oscillator
- Contribute to the planning of the commissioning phase and conduct of first proof-of-principle experiment
- Participate in international collaborations

- PhD in Physics or related field or equivalent qualifications
- Experience in accelerator physics, including Free Electron Lasers
- Experience in numerical simulations with charged particle transport and Free-Electron Laser simulation codes
- Good technical and communication skills
