Tasks

As a first team member solely dedicated to data engineering, you’ll play a pivotal role in establishing a scalable data infrastructure for data analysts & business developers.
Owning the complete data pipeline process, you’ll be

• building and maintaining scalable pipelines, from data ingestion from various sources (Logs, APIs, Tools) to data modelling from unordered/denormalized sources
• optimising performance of SQL based pipelines, models, applying e.g. indexing and partitioning techniques
• implementing processes and systems to validate and monitor data quality, ensuring data integrity and consistency
• writing unit/integration tests, contributing to engineering wiki, and documenting work
• working closely with all business units and engineering teams to develop a strategy for long term analytical data architecture

Requirements

Required:

• 3+ years experience as Data Engineer or DBA
• A degree in computer science, engineering or related field
• Python skills to accomplish complex data aggregation and transformation with multiple sources and data structures
• Very good proficiency in SQL (complex, analytical queries, query performance tuning)
• Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining a scalable analytical database, from architecture to pipelines
• Experience working with data pipeline tools such as dbt, Airflow or AWS Glue
• Knowledge in commonly used tools & software engineering best practices (GIT, Bash /Shell, ...)

Nice to have:

• Experience with GCP, BigQuery
• Experience in dimensional modelling related to SaaS

Soft skills:
Working in a fast-paced Start Up environment with flat hierarchies, you’ll need to

• communicate well (ability to explain complex processes to a non-expert audience)
• critically challenge data requests from other teams (Growth, BI, Product & Development
• know how to work autonomously, long-sighted & diligent
• be hands-on and pragmatic (Prioritize delivering value to the end-users in a lean way over tinkering with technology)
• be flexible: Willing to work with existing setup (using our BigQuery, dbt setup and not shifting the stack immediately)
• keep the business and customer value in mind
• have a genuine interest to share your knowledge and elevate other team members to the next level
