  • Material-efficient and process adapted design of plastic-based components and systems with additional non-mechanical functions that take on electronic, thermal, tribological or haptic tasks,
  • Material and structural mechanical characterization of polymer-based components and hybrid structures with an extended property profile,
  • Increase in the functional density of short, long and continuous fiber reinforced plastics and plastic/metal as well as plastic/graphite composites for high-tech applications,
  • Sustainable technologies for the integration of intrinsic functionality in plastic components for advanced motion systems,
  • Resource-saving manufacturing processes for functional semi-finished products as carrier systems for bio-based lightweight structures and additive manufacturing technologies for functional integration.
We are looking for a scientifically visible personality who is proven in the field of functional integration in plastic-based semi-finished products, components and systems., In teaching, the W1 junior professorship in the bachelor´s and master´s degree program in Mechanical engineering, Micro technology and mechatronics, Automotive production and technology, Sports engineering, Medical engineering as well as Advanced manufacturing is to set new accents. In addition, the implementation of courses in interdisciplinary degree programs is expected as well as the ability and willingness to give courses in English.

Following qualifications are assumed: strong research track record (success in acquiring and willingness to acquire external funding, strong publication record, active conference participation, mentoring students and junior researchers), university teaching experience (in particular, willingness to teach in English), activities and experience in knowledge transfer as well as willingness to participate in academic administration activities.

Additional desired qualifications are: international activities and experience in teaching, research and knowledge/technology transfer, additional documentation of teaching qualifications, capacity and willingness to support continuing education, capacity and willingness to explore novel teaching and learning methods, capacity and willingness to support public relations activities.

Conditions for the appointment are regulated in
  • 63 Abs. 1 and 3 of SächsHSFG. Note that no appointment is possible for candidates already bearing a habilitation (i.e., German teaching qualification) or who have already initiated the habilitation process. The initial appointment will be as an assistant professor (W1) in non-tenured employment or civil service employment for the duration of four years. Depending on a first evaluation, this will be extended for another two years. The intended subsequent transition to associate professor (W2) without further selection procedure - either under tenured civil service, if the requirements mandated are met, or alternatively under permanent private-law employment - is contingent on a tenure-track evaluation at TU Chemnitz., Engineering: PhD or equivalent
