Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies-Research Area on Energy Systems and Societal Change

The Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies e.V. (IASS) is financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal State of Brandenburg. The IASS conducts research with the goal of understanding, advancing, and guiding processes of societal change towards sustainable development. In order to develop a common understanding of sustainability challenges and generate potential solutions the IASS collaborates with diverse actors from science, policymaking and public administration as well as business and civil society. Focus on global energy transition policy and politics & geopolitics of hydrogen

Working field:

  • Conducting desk research in the field of climate and energy policy, global energy transition, geopolitics of hydrogen, green industrial policy
  • Compiling and creating graphical representations of data
  • Supporting the organization, implementation and documentation of workshops/events
  • Supporting the preparation of presentations and publications
  • Administrative support
  • Supporting the implementation of third-party projects, such as “Geopolitics of the Energy Transformation: Implications of an International Hydrogen Economy” (GET Hydrogen, https://www.iass-potsdam.de/en/research/geopolitics-energy-transformation) and “Global Hydrogen Potential Atlas” (HYPAT, https://hypat.de/hypat-en/)

Requirements:

  • University training in the fields of economics, social and political sciences, sustainability studies, innovation studies, regional studies or related fields
  • Very good knowledge of English; strong knowledge of German is a plus
  • Knowledge and/or interest in international issues related to climate and energy policy, energy transition
  • Experience and/or interest in working at the interface between research, policy and society
  • Experience and/or interest in public policy analysis
  • Experience in the qualitative or quantitative analysis of data is a plus
  • Strong degree of self-motivation and ability to work both independently and in a team environment
