B. Braun New Ventures is a Corporate Start-Up based in Freiburg, Germany, founded in 2020. It is set up to support B. Braun’s mission of digital transformation by developing solutions to automate surgical procedures across all business areas. The goal is to augment caregivers’ eyes, hands and decision making with smart sensors, robotics and artificial intelligence. This will enable sharing of clinical experience, open up new treatment possibilities and result in better patient care.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develop electromechanical solutions for a new sensor and robotic assisted surgery system
  • Defining and implementing electrical requirements and electrical architecture of the platform
  • Design, simulate, integrate and test PCBAs and other electrical components such as actuators, cameras, controllers, PCs and power supplies
  • Select, evaluate, and integrate electronic and electro-mechanical components
  • Coordinate electrical safety testing
  • Analyze data from sensors, optical and electrical sub-systems to optimize system performance
  • Cooperating with partner suppliers and B. Braun manufacturing units to transfer designs into production
  • Coaching junior engineers and supporting the growth of the team
Professional competencies
  • Having an academic degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, medical engineering, physics, or an equivalent field
  • You have a minimum of 3 years of professional experience preferably in a regulated industry such as med tech, automation, or aviation
  • Proficiency with common electrical measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and communication bus packet sniffers
  • Deep understanding of electromechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Experience with SPICE, Polar, Matlab or other common tools for analysis, modeling, and simulation of electrical circuits
  • Having experience with hardware related programming using C/C++ or other common programing languages is a plus
  • Knowledge of safety standard IEC 60601-1 is a plus
  • Experience with the design and integration of PCBAs, sensors or EM components

  • Highly motivated and eager to learn new technologies quickly
  • You are a hands-on doer and an interdisciplinary networker
  • Having an innovation mindset with enthusiasm for high-tech medical products
  • A good command of written and spoken English as a prerequisite for communication in our international team, German would be a plus
