Description

The Kernel and Operating System team is responsible for the kernel, the hypervisor and the userland on top of which run all of the services offered by AWS, including EC2. Because security is always the top priority, the Kernel and Operating System team together with AWS Security are continuously striving to identify potential security risks early and resolve them swiftly.

Taking on security issues at this scale and speed requires a passion for engineering novel solutions to complex security challenges, as well as the ability to quickly design and build internal-facing tools to address those challenges.

This position requires a person who find security vulnerabilities by code audits, static and dynamic analysis and then categorize them appropriately to take action. You can think both like an attacker and a defender. You will be required to identify which issues really do and don’t matter, and to push teams to make the right security decisions and priorities.

The successful candidate will have a good mix of deep technical knowledge as well as track record in handling security responses. We value broad and deep technical knowledge, specifically in the fields of static code analysis, fuzzing and functional verification.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Reactive security for EC2 virtualization
  • Conducting sophisticated security reviews
  • Code and binary security scanner usage and development
  • Continuous process improvements.

Basic Qualifications
  • BS degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
  • Relevant pro-active security industry experience (vulnerability handling, fuzzing, code inspection, static code analysis, formal verification, penetration testing)
  • Basic C programming skills
  • Scripting for Tooling (one of Python, Bash, Ruby, Perl)
  • Demonstrate that you can apply your security knowledge to the Hypervisor and the Kernel of the operating system
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of internet security issues and threat landscape
  • Familiarity with AWS services
