The Position
Welcome to Space: We are looking for a Scientist with experience in the wide field of Earth Observation and Remote Sensing!
Assigned to a service at our customer EUMETSAT, you will support a wide range of scientific and technical activities related to the definition, implementation, maintenance and evolution of the Cal/Val functions of a suite of UV/Vis/NIR/SWIR imaging spectrometer missions in various operational ground segments including MetOp GOME-2, Copernicus Sentinel-4 and Sentinel-5, and potentially Copernicus CO2M.
This position is mainly based on-site at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt but also partly at our Head Office in Darmstadt. It is a permanent full-time position with the earliest to immediate start date.

Qualifications/Experience*
- University degree in Physics, Remote Sensing, Meteorology, Computer Sciences, or other related fields
Essential Skills
- Motivation to drive the scientific exploitation of the latest Earth Observation data products;
- At least three years of experience in the field of physical remote sensing in one or more of the areas listed above, including involvement in processing of satellite data up to level 1 (calibrated / geolocated radiances) and/or level 2 (geophysical parameters), and satellite data monitoring;
- Very good experience in scientific software development;
- Very good skills in high-level programming languages, such as Python, C++, Java, DB/SQL;
- Standout colleague able to establish an excellent team environment;
- Skills in writing scientific/technical documents;
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and LaTeX;
- Fluency in English is mandatory.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with NetCDF, XML
- Fluency in command-line use on Linux/Unix platforms;
- Hands-on experience with version control systems (e.g. git, svn) and collaborative workflow;
- Familiarity with common formats, e.g. XML, netCDF or HDF;
- Experience in the use of image processing software such as IDL or ENVI in a UNIX/Linux environment.
