Introduction

Our client, an EPC(M) contractor, is currently working on a revamping project in Germany. In order to reinforce their team, they are currently seeking a Welding Inspector.

Organization

  • You will perform the conformity evaluation and judgement, accompanied by measurement and testing as appropriate, of the welding related matters in the fabrication environment of the Project, overseeing the assigned Shop and Field welding activities of the various Subcontractors (or also Vendors as required).
  • You provide off-site (prefabrication workshops) and on-site (prefabrication workshop and field) inspection and quality control activities for all the “welded” products of the project. By utilizing magnification and stress equipment, you ensure the products meet specifications and quality standards according to blueprints and knowledge of welding and metallurgy. You are also responsible for ensuring the welding machines daily set up and operating correctly and the welding techniques of welders to guarantee the quality of the work.
  • You will report directly to the Project Welding Inspector Lead (or, in his absence, to the Project QA/QC Manager) and interfaces with the Quality Control and Turnover teams. You coordinate the assigned off-site or on-site activities and cooperate with the other Welding Inspectors as appropriate.

Function

  • You will supervise the Subcontractor’ welding personnel to respect the applicable EHS procedures.
  • You cooperate closely with the EHS Supervisors/Advisors to ensure the proper assistance and surveillance on safety matters from the QC Inspection team.
  • You provide advice to the colleagues in Work Permits, Method Statements and Job Safety Analysis review relevant to welding and to the fulfillment of permit conditions requirements.
  • You ensure adequate daily toolbox, start works meetings for the concerned field positions.
  • You participate in all area safety assessment regularly scheduled or dictated by circumstances.
  • You are responbile for reading work instructions, drawings and/or schematics to interpret and confirm production and/or assembly information.
  • You verify that the base materials and consumable welding materials conform to the specifications and that the welding filler materials used are as specified for each base material or combination of base materials.
  • You verify that the welding equipment to be used for the work is appropriate for the use with the welding procedure and has the capability to meet the applicable requirements of the welding procedure.
  • You verify that the welding procedures are as specified and are qualified, and that the welding performed is performed in conformation to the applicable procedure.
  • You will perform daily inspection on provided weld sample coupons and authorize the daily production welds.
  • You will perform required tests as dictated by applicable standards.
  • You record and maintain inspection test data.
  • You perform cost analysis of weld efficiency.
  • You detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the Welding Inspector Lead or to the Project QA/QC Manager, and as directed discard products, materials, and/or equipment which do not meet specifications.
  • You will advise on new or modify current welding methods, techniques and procedures as necessary.
  • You verify that welders, welding operators, and tack welders have been qualified in conformance to the applicable standards, and that they are re-qualified to use the welding procedures specified for the work, and they are in sufficient number; promptly advise in negative case.
  • You supervise shop and field welding activities and issue to the QA/QC manager weekly reports of the welding performances of the assigned subcontractors.
  • You will monitor, in collaboration with Field Project Control Team, the progress of the assigned Subcontractor(s) in relation to piping and/or other trades’ welding.
  • You are in charge of maintaining contacts with Subcontractor involved in welding matters and participate to construction meetings, as required by Construction Manager.

Requirements

  • You have obtained a degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy or equivalent.
  • You have 6 to 8 years’ experience as Welding Inspector in large and medium projects and 3 years as WI Level 2 – Experience within plant support facilities, clean chemical manufacturing facilities, microelectronics or pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities is desired.
  • You must possess active IIW/EWF-Standard or PCN-WI Level 2 or AWS-CWI or CSWIP- WI 3.1 certification by bodies accredited under ISO/IEC 17024.
  • NDT Interpretation certification desirable
  • Knowledge of “orbital” welding fixtures and weld set up parameters such as forming gases, Amps, Volts, etc.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English and German.
  • Turnaround / Shut-Down experiences desirable.
  • Fully conversant with international Safety standards.
  • Fully conversant with international Welding Quality standards, codes and industry practices.
  • Ability to interpret work schedules.
  • Microsoft office package (Excel, Word, Project & Outlook) user.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
