We are now looking for a Production Engineer (m/f/d) in Leuna, Germany.

“The UPM Biochemicals business unit produces bio-glycols, industrial sugars and functional fillers based on renewable raw materials at our site in Leuna. In order to implement and ensure the start-up, ramp-up and a safe, efficient and reliable, high-quality production at the site, we are looking for a motivated production engineer ,as soon as possible, who will continuously optimize plant operation with the support of operational excellence, communication skills and technical expertise as well as a structured approach to solving plant problems. What you’ll do
  • Serve as a vital and motivated resource/key person for production by applying technical skills and using operational excellence to:
    • optimize plant operations
    • resolve plant related problems
    • enable safe and efficient production of low-cost, quality products
  • Use conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, procedures, process safety and HSE
  • Perform routine assignments and solve standard problems using existing procedures
  • Apply general business knowledge acquired through training or experience
  • Serve as a communicator to plant operators and shift leaders
  • Respond quickly to plant related issues and emergencies, and partner with technology experts/specialists to perform advanced troubleshooting and improve operating discipline
  • Support and develop a robust and safe start-up and commissioning plan together with the Operations team
  • Diagnose and document root causes of asset utilization losses in the facility to ensure a continuous improvement of operations
  • Maintain, own and review daily key performance indicators (KPIs)/trends to ensure optimal performance
  • Work closely with the Operations team, leveraging their problem-solving skills and technical expertise
  • Conduct daily reviews of communication tools for operations and alarm history to better understand the plant operation, and stay engaged in daily activities
  • Understand why specific procedures, steps and precautions are needed, and keep a strong field presence to reinforce their importance
  • Act as the business unit´s technical expert during unplanned events and drive implementation of effective corrective and preventative measures
  • Provide leadership, expertise, diagnosis, and optimization in plant raw material efficiency, which may include yield or waste generation
  • Ensure compliance with plant operating permits
  • Understand site integration and provide input to optimize the overall system
Who you are
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Process or Chemical Engineering, preferably with first manufacturing or engineering experience, or a very good Bachelor Professional degree with at least 5 years of experience in a chemical production plant
  • You have strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • You have strong communication and leadership skills
  • Preferably, you have experience in start-up and commissioning of chemical plants
  • Root cause investigation skills are preferred
  • Lean skills preferred
  • You are a team player
  • You are fluent in German and English
