Although the position will, in large part, be based in Kutaisi, Georgia, the successful applicant will be employed by the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine – Medical Imaging Physics (INM-4) at Forschungszentrum Jülich as part of the GGSB-PLUS initiative. The GGSB-PLUS was established to facilitate research collaboration and knowledge exchange between scientists and researchers in Germany and Georgia. Currently, through the GGSB-PLUS, scientists trained in Jülich successfully run three SMART Labs at universities in Georgia for the education and training of students. This model is to be expanded in the form of the SMART|LAB Biomedical Imaging. This lab aims to use machine learning techniques to improve clinical diagnosis and therapy. Specifically, the Lab will address the following topics jointly with Georgia and Germany: (a) quantitative mapping of water content in the brain; (b) tumour diagnostics; (c) early diagnosis using machine learning; (d) development of therapeutic probes for diagnostics and therapy; and (e) training and transfer to the therapy centre.
