Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/x) - Protein Homeostasis in Aging and Disease
Thorsten Hoppe Laboratory - CECAD Cluster of Excellence in Aging Research

We are one of the largest and oldest universities in Europe and one of the most important employers in our region. Our broad range of subjects, the dynamic development of our main research areas and our central location in Cologne make us attractive for students and researchers from around the world. We offer a wide range of career opportunities in science, technology, and administration.

The Hoppe Lab (www.hoppelab.uni-koeln.de) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher (f/m/x). We address the dynamic regulation of proteolytic pathways that integrate environmental and physiological changes to identify protein degradation networks that protect the proteome of the organism. Our laboratory aims to unravel the interplay between proteolytic networks at the molecular, cellular and organismal levels and to define adaptive mechanisms that ensure proteome integrity in response to environmental stress or disease-associated mutations.

YOUR TASKS

  • Studying the conserved regulation of proteostasis networks in C. elegans, mammalian cell culture ,and samples of disease patients
  • Combining state-of-the-art (opto)genetics, biochemical and imaging techniques
  • Defining proteostasis networks essential for stress resistance and tissue functionality
  • The proposed project will have broad implications for the understanding of tissue regeneration and age-associated neurodegeneration. Novel findings may be relevant for future therapeutic interventions against degenerative aging-associated diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, and Parkinson’s disease.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Doctorate in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology
  • Interested in protein quality control and aging research
  • Good communication skills, fluency in English
  • Creativity, strong ability for teamwork and problem solving
  • Enthusiastic and highly motivated
  • Outstanding performance throughout your undergraduate studies and doctorate

WE OFFER

  • International, enthusiastic and collaborative research group
  • A diverse working environment with equal opportunities
  • Support in balancing work and family life
