To further strengthen our MCU Application Engineering team at our German location we are looking for a Lead Applications Engineer/Wireless (Senior Staff Engineer) to support next generation Wireless MCU technologies
Responsibilities
This person will work in the IoT MCU Application Engineering team to provide support for advanced wireless MCU devices and solutions. The focus of the role will be to build and lead a new application engineer team supporting the MCU devices within the wireless device families across both the EMEA region directly, and globally as part of the wider Application Engineering group.
Job Duties Include
Build and Lead a new global wireless Application Engineering team to provide the following
- Provide customer support on all aspects of wireless MCU solutions leading to design-in, as well as on-going support for existing devices, solutions, and software at established customers.
- Provide technical support for Renesas marketing, business development, FAE and sales teams for design-in and promotional activities.
- Lead training of Renesas wireless solutions and devices with customers, sales teams and distributors. Create and present relevant training material on embedded applications and solutions.
- Work closely with our core engineering team to build solutions and proof-of-concepts to meet the expectations of customers, marketing, and business development.
- Work with strategic partners to establish an integrated support route within the established Renesas structure to provide a high level of technical support for the wireless MCU products and solutions.
- Work with marketing and business development teams to ensure alignment with product requirements and project objectives.
- Help architect and define system level applications utilizing a structured SW and MCU platform
- Participate in Design Reviews of wireless MCU based boards, systems, and firmware/software.
- Develop solutions in cooperation with 3rd party partners by defining hardware, software and system wireless requirements and manage through to production.
- Assist in Wireless HW and SW bring-up and debugging alongside customers and partners.
- Help to create supporting documentation for wireless solutions by reviewing and providing feedback.
- Ensure the feasibility, functionality, compatibility, and integration with existing platform SW from the software engineering team.
- Implement engineering processes to ensure high quality designs. Build and maintain a wireless lab facility.
- Expected travel requirement up to 25%
Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience, or master’s degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering. Masters preferably.
Required Experience
- Demonstrated experience in developing wireless MCU based products/systems.
- At least 8 years of experience developing embedded products or systems development.
- 4+ years’ experience with Wireless SoCs, and developing systems communicating data over BLE, Zigbee, WiFi, LTE, NB-IoT, or UWB networks.
- Hands-on experience with engineering lab equipment and test techniques required for digital validation. Comfortable with reviewing schematics and PCB layout related to RF design.
- Experience with Radio test equipment is a must (spectrum analyzers, Vector Network analyzers, signal generators, phase noise analyzers, oscilloscopes, DMM’s, etc).
- Familiar with Physical Layer functionality for wireless systems in areas such as detection, synchronization, channel coding/decoding, antenna design, etc.
- Understanding of RTOS concepts and multithreaded programming concepts .
- Board bring-up and debugging for complex MCU based products/systems.
- Digital and analogue hardware design of board-level circuits, including MCU interfacing and sensor signal conditioning.
- Exceptional embedded firmware/software skills using C and C++; Familiarity with OO concepts and/or platform embedded designs.
- Design and development of multi-threaded/multi-tasking applications using MCU-based RTOS.
- System level design and integration, including embedded design for EMC compliance.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Experience with IOT technologies including device and cloud connectivity protocols.
- Security protocols and secure software design methods
- Communications technologies including Ethernet and USB.
- Additional key technologies include Low Power, Security and Safety
- Experience working with remote teams.
