UPM Biochemicals is now looking for a Laboratory Manager Catalysis (m/f/d) for a permanent position at our location in Leuna, Germany.

What You’ll Do

As Laboratory Manager of the Catalysis Laboratory, you will support the Biochemicals Business Operation team with respect to the successful launch of wood-based biochemicals and process optimization. Furthermore, you will act as an interface between the laboratory, production, and external partners. You will become a part of an agile team in one of the most exciting areas in the industry today. At the heart of UPM’s Biofore strategy, you will get the possibility to shape the future of bio-based chemicals.

In this position, you will use all your experience and know-how to:
  • Lead a highly motivated laboratory team
  • Participate in location setup and design of new laboratories
  • Improve existing and develop new chemical conversion processes of renewable feedstocks
  • Interact with production and business development teams
  • Set-up and coordinate R&D projects with external partners
  • Report, document, and present results, including possible key aspects to be protected via IP
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and organize workflows in an efficient way
  • Support the successful execution of flagship projects
Who You Are
  • You have a PhD in Chemistry or a similar discipline
  • You have a strong background in catalysis and organic chemistry
  • Experience in the field of bioeconomy, biorefineries and 2nd generation biomass processes is advantageous
  • You have an open mind with a creative and efficient way of working
  • You are a team player with experience in driving projects from an idea to a reality while working in international teams
  • You have an entrepreneurial mindset and a positive spirit combined with excellent influencing and collaboration skills
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, other languages such as German, are considered an asset
