Job DescriptionFrom March 2023, our team in Dresden offers an opportunity for anIntern: 5G/6G mmWave Antenna Over-the-Air Test Design (m/f/x)Active antennas are increasingly used in applications such as 5G and 6G mobile communications and modern radar systems. To enable high data rates, low latency, and high resolution, these systems require the use of mmWave carrier frequencies (e.g., 24-50 GHz). Active antennas implement beamforming to overcome the high path loss at such frequencies. A big challenge lies in how vendors of mmWave antennas and devices can test them reliable, quickly, and cost-effectively.Your TasksDepending on your previous knowledge and experience, you will deal with one of the following tasks:
  • Prototype design, hardware integration, embedded programming, and test of a novel over-the-air measurement approach
  • Design, implementation, and demonstration of user-friendly control, reporting and visualization software for a novel over-the-air measurement scheme
Required QualificationsYour Qualifications
  • Student (m/f/x) of Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, in the 5th semester or higher
  • Basic programming knowledge (e.g., C/C++ or Python)
  • Basic knowledge of RF engineering
  • Fluency in English or German
  • Compulsory internship (duration: 4 - 6 months)
Additional Qualifications (measurement Approach – 1st Option)
  • Experience in the practical use of measurement instruments (e.g., signal analyzer, network analyzer, oscilloscope)
  • Experience with RF design and simulation tools like Cadence/AWR Microwave Office, and CST or ANSYS HFSS
  • Experience with digital control/communication interfaces like I²C or SPI
  • Experience with programming FPGAs, VHDL or Verilog
Additional Qualifications (measurement Software – 2nd Option)
  • Experience in user interface and application-level software design and associated frameworks, e.g., Qt or .NET
  • Experience in LabVIEW and NI TestStand
