career prospects. Our strengths are clear structures, small seminar groups, innovative digital
courses, a practical orientation, interdisciplinarity and close partnerships between teachers and
students.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering intends to fill the following post for the 2022/2023 winter semester:

Professor (W 2) of “Foundation Engineering and Soil Mechanics"
Reference 48 / 2021

(The post is a full-time position with eighteen semester periods of teaching per week).

We are offering the opportunity to take independent responsibility for teaching and research in the
subject on the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes offered by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and
to further develop it in terms of both substance and methodology. You can look forward to motivated
students and open-minded colleagues with a diverse range of expertise. There will be many
opportunities for cooperation with public and private institutions and bodies involved in the
construction industry, research and administration in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region.

You will be expected to provide practically-focused teaching on the courses offered by the Faculty of
Civil Engineering in the area of foundation engineering and soil mechanics: this comprises the entire
breadth of the subject, and in particular soil mechanics, foundation engineering, specialist
underground engineering, excavation planning and calculation, as well as numerical methods in
geotechnical engineering.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering integrates project-oriented content within its programmes to a high
degree. You will have the opportunity to employ innovative methods of digital, online teaching and
advocate the principle of research-based learning. The outstanding facilities offered by our
laboratories for experimental teaching will be available to you for this. You will be involved in
developing the curricula and will also be prepared, when necessary, to be involved in teaching
foundation subject courses.

Based on your in-depth and practical professional experience in foundation engineering and soil
mechanics, you will have the expertise and willingness to manage and run the foundation
engineering laboratory. The intensive use of the laboratory for research and development projects
and the expansion of technology transfer as well as a close cooperation with other universities and
research institutions is desirable.

At the present time, a cross-departmental research cluster, “Design • Build • Conserve”, is being
established at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences, to which you will be able to contribute
through the acquisition of third-party-funded projects.

You will fulfil the conditions of employment as set out in § 41 para. 1 points 1 to 3 and 4b of the
Brandenburg Universities Act (BbgHG), and will also possess, alongside an appropriate university
degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on construction engineering, many years of scientific and
practical professional experience in the planning and preparation of structural calculations in the

fields of foundation engineering and soil mechanics. Furthermore, you will preferably hold a
qualifying doctorate in this field.

You will be able to provide evidence of good didactic skills and have excellent contacts within the
construction industry, of which you will be able to make use for your research and teaching in the
Faculty. Preferably you will have experience in human resource management as a project,
departmental or office manager.

It goes without saying that the post holder will also be involved in academic self-governance, and
that pedagogic and social skills are a necessity.

Your active involvement in strengthening the research and transfer focal point of “Design • Build •
Conserve” is important to us. Moreover, we also endeavour to test and develop new didactic
concepts. We wish to expand our interdisciplinary, cross-departmental courses that are oriented
towards the didactic principle of research-based learning and also increase the proportion of English-
language and digital courses. We hope to be able to count on a high level of commitment from you
in these areas.

It may be possible to employ you with civil servant status, provided that you meet the requirements
for this. In the event that this is a first appointment to a professorship, the contractual relationship
shall initially be limited to five years in accordance with § 43 para. 1 of the BbgHG and § 34 of the
rules of appointment of Potsdam University of Applied Sciences. It may be possible to extend this
appointment without repeating the appointment process in accordance with §§ 35 et seq. of the
