The job

The Department of Microbial Biotechnology is seeking six postdoctoral research fellows (f/m/x), prefereable in full-time with 100%, to work on the project BISON (funded through the Sächsische Aufbaubank / EU Just Transition Fund). The project is currently pending the final approval of the funding agency.

Your tasks

We are looking for a complementary team of postdocs (6 positions) who thrive to develop sustainable biotech applications. In particular we are seeking experts in

  • systems biological characterization of microbes in bio-electrochemical reactors using proteomics, metabolomics, and flux analysis.
  • operating pure culture bio-electrochemical reactors using mediators ideally with experience in cyanobacterial cultivation, testing of new surface properties for electrodes, membranes, or reactor designs.
  • imaging and spectroscopy methods to visualize and determine the mass and electron transfer in hydrogel-based artificial biofilms.
  • microbiology, capable of cultivating and screening cyanobacteria for electroactivity, biofilm-forming properties, and resistance to light- and temperature fluctuations.

Your profile

  • Ideally, a PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, (bio)electrochemistry, analytical chemistry, imaging, systems biology, or similar fields.
  • Experience with either bio-electrochemical reactors, systems biological analysis, mass spectrometry, biofilms, or screening of strain collections
  • Demonstrated ability to publish and work under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • A friendly, flexible, self-motivated, and proactive person who pays attention to detail and enjoys working in a diverse international team.
