The RoleAs Tesla begins building drive units in Berlin, we need mechanical engineers who will support manufacturing engineering and production. These engineers will also localize supply of drive unit components like castings, gears, shafts and bearings for cost savings and capacity increases.
Responsibilities
- Design validation and durability testing profile development and data analysis
- Optimize designs with the appropriate analytical and physical assessments
- Interpret CAE simulation results and integrate recommendations into product designs
- Carry designs through to high-volume production; design for manufacturing, cost reductions, and second sourcing
- Create 3D CAD and 2D drawings for castings, gears, shafts, bearings, stators, rotors and assemblies
- Evaluate competing design approaches using any one of the various development tools (DFMEA, fault tree, decision matrices, etc.)
- Act as technical consultant to support Global Supply Managers on making strategic sourcing decisions
- Participate in global product development and provide insight from European markets
- Identify, qualify, manage and collaborate with key suppliers (both internal and external) to support overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/production build events
- Mentor junior engineers and interns
- Hands on experience in mechanical design and launch of drive systems
- Full design cycle experience of drive systems, taking automotive designs from clean sheet to volume production
- Experience with electric motor technologies
- Experience with vehicle transmission technologies
- Experience with vehicle and component level testing including homologation testing
- Proven record in managing complex and cross-functional programs
- Experience with an international supply chain team
- Detail oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills
- Proficient in English
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- 3D CAD, 2D Drawings
- Design failure mode and effect analysis
- Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis
- Structural Finite Element Analysis
- CATIA V5 and/or V6
- Manufacturing and quality engineering
- Noise, vibration and harshness analysis
