Position Summary

The Manager of Laboratory Automation will be based at our facility located in Penzberg Germany and will report to Director of Laboratory Operations. S/he will be reasonable for leading a team of Automation Engineers and Application Scientists that develop, implement, and support automated laboratory systems for Foundation Medicine’s clinical diagnostic laboratory.

The candidate will have extensive experience developing and supporting automation solutions for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) as well as overseeing a team responsible for the automated systems deployed in either a clinical lab or manufacturing setting under CLIA, FDA or ISO regulations. S/he will also have a strong acumen for program management and process improvement, in order to drive strategic initiatives that ensure that our diagnostic tests continually deliver the highest quality results for our patients.

What The Job Is About
  • Lead a team of Automation Engineers and Application Scientists in Penzberg; focused on developing and supporting automated solutions for NGS Diagnostic Assays in a CLIA, CAP, QSR and ISO regulatory environment.
  • Participate in and lead cross-functional teams focused on qualification and deployment of robust and scalable integrated automation solutions.
  • Ensures the Automation staff conducts development, deployment, and maintenance activities for automation systems per our Quality Management Processes, including IQ, OQ, Test Method Validation, change control and version control. 
  • Review and critique presentations for others and present complex technical data to large and diverse groups.
  • Lead or contribute to innovation of current and new assays workflows, technologies and processes.
  • Partner with stakeholders, team members, equipment design vendors and various internal resources in support of sustaining and growing the business model. This includes product, facilities, equipment, supply chain, services, staffing, operating procedures, policies and standards.
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor, better Master’s Degree in Life Sciences, Bioengineering or Biotechnology
  • 6+ years of experience with Laboratory Automation for NGS assays
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally
  • You are fluent in German and English language
