About the team / Über unser Team
As the Director of Platform & IT, you will shape and execute Unzer’s strategy for foundational infrastructure, delivering reliable and high-performing services for our customers.
Reporting to VP Engineering, you will coordinate with stakeholders to understand Unzer’s core service priorities across all our product lines. You will be responsible for guiding the design, adoption of core technical infrastructure to provide IT services, cloud, compute, networking, and essential database and streaming systems. This stack will operate in the cloud and on-prem environments and provide a managed IaaS platform for Unzer.

What you will do / Deine Verantwortung

• Be accountable for growing and mentoring a top of the class team of IT professionals to build and run a reliable platform infrastructure (teams are based in several Unzer locations - currently Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, and Heidelberg)

• Develop, drive and execute the long-term vision and strategy for flexible and scalable long-term cloud infrastructure and production systems used by all of Unzer’s product lines

• Support the reliable operation of these systems as a Platform for Unzer’s products

• Set and support a learning and solution-oriented culture with efficient processes and strong transparency and honesty

• Work with external vendors and aid build vs buy decisions

Your profile / Dein Profil

• You have a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience

• You have 6+ years of experience of managing teams of infrastructure engineers

• You have 10+ years of experience developing scalable high-throughput software, preferably in infrastructure roles

• You have a proven track record of assembling high functioning organization

• You can adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment

• You are known for your exceptional organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks and keep projects on schedule

• You are an expert in essential cloud infrastructure systems (ideally AWS, Kubernetes, Observability) and have practical knowledge about data infrastructure systems (RDBMS, Kafka, NoSQL, messaging queues)
