The role supports more senior Capacity Engineers in working with Sales, Sales Engineer, Commercial Finance and IBX Ops TFM to manage the Capacity Space & Power Inventory of designated IBXes within a geographic region. This will include the Space Planning of the data halls, handling Capacity Feasibility Review (CFR) for Space, Power and Cooling of customer requirements and make the decision if and where a potential customer best can be allocated.

Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities of the Role

Capacity planning and design

• Assists in creating standard cage/cabinet design options that responds to routine customer requirements, Equinix requirements and physical site constraints.
• Prepares in AutoCAD notional cage/cabinet layouts, area calculations and diagrams for each individual standard data center, withing a limited scope.

Capacity Engineering

• Utilizes basic knowledge of electrical / mechanical infrastructure to notionally attribute cage/cabinet designs against IBX infrastructure.
• Produces sample solutions for validation by more senior members.

Problem Solving

• Recognises standard, cross functional Capacity (Space, Power and Cooling) issues that span multiple groups and knows to whom to escalate.

Data and drawing management

• Works under supervision with IBX site operations to address discrepancies with documentation of facility infrastructure and installation of customer cages.
• Ensures that AutoCAD drawings and capacity systems correctly represent existing status of IBX.
• Provides support to maintain the integrity of the Capacity drawings and inventory data.
• Provides support to create spatial layouts within limited scope.

Collaboration

• Works with immediate team members and may have external collaboration with assistants of more senior team members.
• Coordinates with various departments for the monthly reporting of Capacity trends, availability and accuracy of drawings and records of the site.

Capacity Feasibility and optimisation

• Works with Capacity Engineer colleagues to identify power/cooling limitations, discuss potential solutions/options/modifications, and develop appropriate basic solutioning.
• Acts as a support for the first point of contact for the Capacity Feasibility Review (CFR) process to ensure that customer requirement on space and power is being assigned in such a way that it maximizes the value of the Equinix data centers by optimizing the efficiency on space and power utilization.

Qualification and skills

• Degree in Architectural Space Planning or Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Basic knowledge how to work with AutoCAD
• Good English language communication and writing skills
• Good problem-solving ability
• Above all, a great willingness to learn more and grow in this role and as a person.
• Some basic understanding of the data center business (is a pre)
• Basic knowledge to handle databases & CRM Software
• Knowledge and experience how to work with excel, powerpoint and outlook.
