Data is the new resource of the 21st century and data availability seems endless. Would you like to establish part of the data relationship lifecycle for plant science? Then the division of Bioinformatics (IBG-4) at the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences at Research Centre Juelich is the right place for you. The division of Bioinformatics (IBG-4) works on and develops methods and algorithms to achieve a fundamental understanding, especially of high-dimensional data and processes in the bio-economy. The IBG-4 focuses on knowledge management and research data integration.The institute is part of the national infrastructure for plant research data DataPLANT nfdi4plants.de, which is currently under construction and will allow sustainable storage and access to plant data. Here, the institute is concerted on the standardisation and development of ontologies in collaboration with international teams.

Your Job
  • You will work in the NFDI consortium DataPLANT on the definition of standards (data matrices, biological parameters, environmental conditions, etc.) and their establishment in the field of scientific evaluation and processing of omics data
  • You will work on the development of efficient standardisation with regard to data quality control and compatibility of data and workflows
  • You will present the scientific results at project meetings and international conferences and publish them in high-ranking scientific journals, We work on the very latest issues that impact our society and are offering you the chance to actively help in shaping the change!   • PhD in Data Science and/or plant or similar with relevant and proven experience in the field
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience with biological and plant science ontologies as well as with standards from the plant community such as MIAPPE
  • Experience in ontology development / controlled vocabularies as well as data curation
  • Experience with data management and with the analysis and integration of high throughput data such as next generation sequencing, metabolite profiling and phenomics data in the field of plant or natural sciences are an advantage
  • Experience in javascript, SQL, R and/or Python/Perl is a plus
  • Excellent German and English skills, both written and spoken, We offer you an exciting and varied role in an international and interdisciplinary working environment. The position is initially for a fixed term of 3,5 years, with possible long-term prospects.
