Principal Software Engineer (Backend), Restaurant Product Line (all genders)

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer (Backend), (all genders) to join our Restaurant Product Line and participate in Architecture & Infra Guild, which is a newly established group targeting to create and evangelise best practices, baseline our SW on state of the art architecture and guide our engineering teams towards excellence. We are looking for you to help us create a fast, reliable and smooth food ordering experience. The Restaurant Product Line focuses on the user journey from selection to delivery tracking; there are so many aspects to be covered in this journey, including how to present useful content, help to select the food-you-love, understand and tailor the user journey, and many more challenging steps to finally enable a smooth experience through an appealing application. The position will be based in our incredible Hero Hub in the heart of Berlin and will be reporting to the Restaurants Product Line’s Sr. Director of Engineering. The position offers visa sponsorship and relocation support.

• Drive technological improvements through RFCs or other tools to explain, discuss and align decisions paving the future of our solutions.

• Assist tribe/domain leads to set the technical vision and strategy.

• Lead the creation and improvement of scalable and reliable systems.

• Challenge the status quo and propose iterable improvements aligned with the business goals

• Work on Delivery Hero hardest problems, building high quality, architecturally sound systems that are aligned with our business needs

Your heroic skills

• A Bachelor’s degree in a traditional science subject, ideally computer science, engineering or information systems from a well-regarded university

• 10+ years of professional software development experience (Go, Python,PHP, Java)

• Experience working with server driven UI architectures

• You have a strong knowledge in relational databases (ACID, isolation & index types, storage engines) and also in non-relational (DynamoDB, Redis)

• You master common monitoring / alerting / logging tools such as Prometheus, Datadog, distributed tracing, Grafana

• People / Leadership skills, able to lead discussions with the PM, Developers and Design teams

• Passionate about crafting simple solutions to complex engineering problems and writing readable, maintainable, well tested code

• Positive, proactive and enjoy working in a cross-functional team

• Passion for new technologies and willingness to mentor and teach

• Experience in measuring, monitoring and improving app performance

• Ability to ship consumer facing, high quality, mobile products

• Experience in large scale product & teams 50+ team size

Nice to have

• Experience in device tracking (location) with high frequency of updates

• You are AWS Certified Developer / Solutions Architect

• Experience with load testing and chaos engineering

• Experience with circuit breaker patterns

• Experience with performance and cost optimisation

• Ability to think cross-platform (experience in developing for other platforms is a plus)

• You are experienced with the Google Play Store publication and review process

• Experience in large scale product & teams 100+ team size
