The position

NewClimate Institute seeks one or more climate policy analyst(s), to strengthen the team with a focus on sustainable and climate finance. Depending on your individual skill set and interest, your work would focus on one or more of the following topics: financial institutions’ Paris alignment, climate risk analysis, climate finance, and corporate action related topics. The successful candidate will support efforts to generate impactful research and analysis to engage with policy makers and other stakeholders to support shifting financial flows towards consistency with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. This includes development of tools and approaches to advance the climate agenda in the financial sector and foster understanding of international climate investment needs. Particularly relevant themes include climate risk management, climate compatible investment decision making, options to mobilise climate finance, and impact investing.

The position includes, among other tasks, quantitative and qualitative analysis, the contribution to research reports, desk analysis on climate change related topics and the organisation of and participation in workshops and conferences.

NewClimate Institute will support the candidate to secure a visa and work permit in Germany. The position comes with an attractive package of salary and additional benefits such as, for example, support for a private pension scheme, 30 days paid holidays, and a working space in our centrally located offices. The German benefits scheme includes health insurance and other elements of social security.

Candidate profile

You should be highly motivated with a strong interest in the field of climate change policy, financial markets, financial analysis, sustainable development and sectoral transformation.

We are looking for somebody with:

  • Motivated to work for a progressive, evolving, non-profit organisation in a dynamic, impact-oriented team-work atmosphere
  • Interested to be part of a multi-disciplinary, international team
  • Self-sufficient, independent, and eager to learn
  • Flexible and interested to travel in Germany and internationally

Requirements are:

  • Master level university degree or equivalent in a related field (e.g., economics, finance, environmental sciences, or political science)
  • General understanding of climate challenges facing the finance sector (such as transition risks, stranded assets, barriers to climate finance mobilisation, development finance, impact investing, international financial landscape)
  • Knowledge on mitigation options in different sectors (e.g., energy systems, buildings, transport, industry, forestry, agriculture) is an advantage
  • Excellent report writing, communication and presentation skills; ability to express ideas succinctly both verbally and in writing
  • Full proficiency in English; German or other languages a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
