Duties

Under the general supervision of the senior Information Specialist (Media Reaction) and the review of the Information Officer (IO) or the Assistant Information Officer (AIO), the incumbent is responsible for independently analyzing, assessing, and reporting on news developments and German media reaction. Specific tasks include: a) daily review and daily written summary of newspapers, magazines, news services, and online outlets for the morning press briefing, as well as editorials for the State Department’s Media Reaction Report, (b) analysis of content of press and TV and radio commentaries, (c) identifying, selecting, translating into English, and editing stories for the State Department’s Media Reaction Report and other addressees; (d) advising the Information Officer or, in his/her absence, the Assistant IO, on major daily news items for briefing the Ambassador and other senior officers, (e) proofreading for the Amerikadienst, as necessary, and (f) interpreting and translating for the Ambassador and other senior Embassy officials, if necessary.


Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: please address this factor in your ERA application under major duties and responsibilities.


A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in a media outlet, think tank, university, NGO, international organization, foreign embassy, government office, or corporation is required, with responsibility for public relations, public affairs, journalism, communications, marketing, managing public relations, outreach events, press conferences, and other media interactions as significant parts of the job.

Education Requirements:

A university degree (BA) in journalism, communications, international relations, political science, economics, or local equivalent is required.

Evaluations:

Position requires fluent language skills in both English and German (speaking/reading/writing)


This may be tested.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.


The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
