As a Software Backend Engineer Java for Zalando Payments you will build risk assessment systems which processes billions of euros every year and help shape an architecture that is scalable and allows for rapid feature development and testing.
WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

  • Design, develop, deploy, operate and improve important software solutions that impact millions of customers
  • Based on our Microservices architecture, you and your team will own your code and decide on the technologies and tools to deliver, as well operate large-scale applications on PaaS/SaaS cloud (AWS)
  • Take ownership for the whole development cycle - from architecture design to testing to implementation and maintenance
  • Add value by leveraging current trends in software design, architecture and web services
  • A strong mentor, whom encourages knowledge sharing and drives technical discussions within the team.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Passion and the education to back this up. A bachelors Degree in Computer Science (or related field) would be ideal
  • At least 4 years of professional experience with modern development practices
  • Understand the properties of large scale distributed systems and have proven track in building and delivering mission critical, 24x7 production software systems
  • Experience with Java 8 , and relational as well as NoSQL databases. On top of this a familiarity with containerisation technologies, in particular Docker and Kubernetes
  • The ability to write clean, modular, well-annotated code that will make it easier to maintain, update, and scale – and strive to make a positive impact on our engineering culture and encouraging knowledge sharing
  • Understanding of resilience patterns and what means to build scalable system with a track record in building microservices and RESTful API design
