Contenuto del lavoro

The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering (IOF) in Jena conducts applied research in optical system technology on behalf of the industry and as part of publicly funded joint projects. The range of services offered by the Fraunhofer IOF includes system solutions, starting with new design concepts, through the development of technologies, manufacturing and measuring methods to the construction of prototypes and pilot series for applications in the wavelength range from millimeter to nanometer. The Fraunhofer IOF is also pioneering applied optical quantum technology research and offers innovative solutions for science and industry wherever quantum systems have the potential for revolutionary applications.

Central competence and basis of all developments at Fraunhofer IOF are optical and mechanical design as well as the simulation and analysis of optical and optomechanical systems including thermal and thermooptical effects. The use of comprehensive design and modeling tools allows the simulation and optimization of optics and systems made of metal, glass, or plastic – ranging from micro-optics to astronomical telescopes, from laser systems to quantum optics. For this purpose, refractive and reflective as well as diffractive systems, spherical, aspherical, and freeform optical components, fiber-optical and quantum-optical components, gratings and even microlens arrays are calculated. The focus is on micro-optical systems, high-performance and special optics – ranging from automotive to space. These systems are also realized and characterized after their design and simulation.
