The Functional Microbiome Research Group at the Institute of Medical Microbiology offers
Postdoc position (m/f/d)in the context of the project NFDI4Microbiota (https://nfdi4microbiota.de/) financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG). It´s a fulltime position (38,5 h/week). The position is project-specific and offered for 3 years with possibility for an extension of additional 2 years. We are a very dynamic and interdisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art laboratory and equipment at the frontier between clinical and fundamental research. The project
NFDI4Microbiota is a consortium that aims to support researchers in microbiology (including bacteriology, virology, protistology, mycology and parasitology) to translate research data easily into a deep understanding of microbial species and their interactions. The mission of the consortium is to be the central hub in Germany for supporting the microbiology community with access to data, analysis services, data/metadata standards and training.
Job description
You will work within the Functional Microbiome Research group at the Institute of Medical Microbiology. Our team has a long-lasting experience in generating and analyzing (meta)genomic data. The lab also runs a robotized, high-throughput anaerobic cultivation platform that generates personalized collections of hundreds of gut microbes, including high amounts of genomes and metadata. Your task is to contribute in establishing high-quality standards for data analysis and management in collaboration with the NFDI4Microbiota consortium. The automated platform aforementioned will serve as a Use Case to implement measures pertaining to infrastructural and analysis workflow for optimizing data processing and curation. You will also build an important bridge to the IT Center at the RWTH to work on all aspects of the work dealing with data management.
Your profile
You hold a PhD degree in Science. Only candidates with education and/or experience in the following fields will be considered: informatics, bioinformatics, computer & data science, databases, programming, process engineering & automation. You must have a strong interest in working in the field of microbiology and biotechnology. You are pro-active (i.e. inclined to make decision on your own whilst seeking all possible sources of information) and like problem-solving tasks. Very good command of the English language (oral and written) is expected. Proficiency in German will be a plus.
