Job Title: Environmental Health Technician
Location: Public Health Command Europe (PHCE); Landstuhl, Germany
Requirements:
- Candidates shall possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License, USAREUR driver’s license, US Army Transportation Motorpool (TMP) driver’s license and International/EU Identity Card allowing travel within the EU for the entire term of service.
Education/Experience:
- Graduate of an Environmental Science Specialist/Technician Course from a postsecondary vocational/trade school or an Associate’s or bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Environmental Technology or Engineering.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Skilled in English language verbal and written communication to successfully present and document technical information obtained during sampling activities as well as communicate with customers and supervisors.
- Knowledge environmental concepts principles and practices in the areas of drinking water quality; ground water and surface water.
- Knowledge, ability and skill in the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, hearing protection, eye protection, protective gloves and respirators, in laboratory and field environments.
- Ability to read maps and navigate to US installations in the PHCE area of responsibility.
- Ability to operate field equipment including but not limited to: Spectrophotometer, colorimeter, GPS, pH/conductivity meter.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds of equipment; to push/pull equipment carts; walk on uneven terrain, stand for long periods, and to kneel, stand, bend, and reach during field missions.
- Skilled in drinking water sample collection techniques.
Duties:
- Shall assist PHCE with USAG drinking water surveillance programs. Responsible for collection of drinking water samples, determining resource requirements, assisting in preparing sample kits for missions, performing field instrument measurements, and conducting site work on U.S. Government installations in accordance with existing PHCE policies and procedures. Contractor shall document all field information and take photographs, when necessary, at the field site.
- Conducts quality control (QC) and calibration activities on portable water quality analytical equipment prior to use in a field environment.
- Communicates with PHCE staff (i.e., engineers, scientists, technicians) as necessary to provide information on field activities and any findings from field activities or work in the office as well as provide assistance to parallel staff as needed.
- The contractor operates government electronic equipment, computers, and computing systems. Use of government computers and computing systems will be only for official government purposes.
- The contractor shall operate a government vehicle such as a car/pickup truck/step van. The contractor is responsible to provide at least the minimum level of insurance as required for contract employees authorized to drive Government Vehicle car/pickup truck/step van. Use of government vehicle will be only for official government purposes.
- Environmental Health Technician: Under minimal or no supervision while accompanied by another environmental health technician, military or civilian Government employee, travel to US installations to collect water quality samples, operate field equipment, document equipment parameters, collect photographs of field work. Assists in preparing water sample kits. Approximately 60% of the work is in an office or laboratory setting. The remaining 40% of the work required for this position is in a field setting which may require temporary duty away from the Landstuhl, Germany area.
