Job Summary/Purpose
The Director, Global Sustainability will be a key member of the ESG team at Sandoz and will lead coordinated environmental sustainability and GHG emissions reduction efforts across the firm, working in partnership with business units globally. Sandoz’ sustainability efforts touch all aspects of the business, and we are particularly focused on decarbonization, water and waste management, and fostering a sustainable supply chain globally. The Director will play an important role in ensuring that Sandoz is able to set ambitious sustainability goals, work to meet those goals across the business, and communicate progress to all of our stakeholders.

Your Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Implement the firm-wide sustainability and emissions reduction agenda, and coordinate across the business to set and manage to specific Key Performance Indicators
  • Serve as the company expert on Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 GHG emissions reduction efforts and how those efforts link to business success
  • Develop cross-functional initiatives focused on sustainability
  • Create and refine new sustainability policies, as necessary
  • Partner closely with the ESG reporting function as a go-to person to ensure that climate and other sustainability data and narrative is accurate
  • Engage regularly with internal customers and support external communication of Sandoz’ sustainability and GHG emissions reduction goals and progress
  • Partner with market access teams to ensure our sustainability practices are responsive to customer requirements and that the teams can communicate effectively on the subject
  • Serve as an internal leader and educator at Sandoz on our sustainability goals and how they are tied to our business goals
  • Together with the ESG and policy teams, track and analyze global regulations related to sustainability and emissions that may impact Sandoz’ work

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
  • 10+ years of experience working in sustainability, preferably for a global public company or public equities investor, or as a consultant/auditor for large companies on sustainability and environment
  • Experience developing emissions reduction programs in service of a Net Zero emissions goal
  • Expertise on the regulatory environment driving required ESG and sustainability practices and reporting. Experience with EU, Swiss, and US policies and regulations especially relevant
  • Knowledge of the varied ESG reporting taxonomies (TCFD, CDP, etc.) as well as the areas important to ratings agencies (MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with green procurement processes and experience engaging with supply chains to reduce Scope 3 emissions over time
  • Experience leading and coordinating initiatives across a large firm
  • Strong written communications skills
  • Highly organized, able to network across a large enterprise, and a flexible team player
  • Fluent English

Desirable Requirements:
  • Pharmaceutical or life sciences industry experience a plus, as is experience with manufacturing businesses with large procurement functions
