About The Job
The Automotive Systems Team is responsible for providing optimized system solutions out of Texas Instruments` (TI) broad product portfolio. The team is the interface for TI`s product development groups and also for Automotive Account teams and customers. The system engineer works “hand-in-hand” with worldwide Field Application Engineers (FAE) and respective customer engineers to develop winning solutions over competition and uses his broad technical competency and specific subject matter expertise as a competitive advantage.
In this role, you will be working primarily in Traction Inverter Systems for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, providing technical expertise both at the architectural level as well as at the Integrated Circuit level. The role involves development of fully functional customer boards related to our portfolio for Traction Inverter. You will be researching and developing system concepts and designs for key Traction Inverter architectures and trends, with the ultimate goal of working with OEM and Tier 1 customers. As well, you will be advising and consulting with the various product lines to define and develop market leading Traction Inverter IC’s.
The primary tasks of the Automotive Traction Inverter System Engineer will focus on the following:
- Utilize Sales/FAE project knowledge as an advantage to better identify and understand customer design challenges in Traction Inverter Systems for Automotive hybrid and electric vehicles.
- Architect Traction Inverter solutions and designs that address customer design challenges, resulting in wins over TI’s competitors.
- Develop reference designs and prototypes (including schematics and layout) in close collaboration with business unit and worldwide sales teams
- Create training for customers and FAEs, and authors engaging articles for competitive advantage
- Excel at solving dynamic problems proactively, with urgency and ideally has the following technical skills:
- Inverter Motor System control
- Automotive Safety MCU based embedded software development
- ISO26262 Functional Safety, AUTOSAR safety software and implementation
- Inverter Motor System simulation
- Create schematics, layout, hardware buildup and test
- Identify Traction Inverter product and technology gaps and define new products or product enhancements
- Qualifications:
- Electrical engineering bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- 5+ years of development experience in Inverter Motor Controls like Automotive Traction Inverter, Industrial Motor Drive, etc.
- Familiar with Safety MCU, experienced with motor control algorithms and implementation through digital control
- Experience in AUTOSAR, Functional Safety and ISO26262 is an advantage
- Experience in analog hardware design
- Experience using CAD software like Altium, Cadence, etc. to design PCBs: schematic capture and PCB layout
- Experience in prototyping, test and debug
- Experience on system simulation tools like PLECs, Matlab, SPICE, etc.
- Experience in writing design documentation like application reports, EVM user’s guides, etc.
- Communication and interpersonal:
- Ability to work in multinational and multi-site teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
- Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery
- Ability to take the initiative and drive for results
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
- Writing and presentation skills
- Fluent oral and written English communication skills
