Your team
In your role as Senior Economist, you will be part of a team monitoring and analysing the euro area business cycle and/or forecasting the real side of the euro area economy and the largest euro area countries. You will also contribute to a range of operational tasks associated with the ECB’s regular economic analysis on these issues.

Your role
- contribute to the divisional and cross-divisional processes, projects and products related to the euro area business cycle, analysing consumption and investment decisions and also analysing economic developments in the largest euro area countries, both for internal purposes and for external communication, such as ECB publications and speeches on topics linked to the euro area business cycle;
- contribute to developing tools, models and the necessary infrastructure for analysing the euro area business cycle and/or forecasting the real side of the euro area economy and of the largest euro area economies;
- provide detailed monitoring and analysis of short-term economic developments, domestic demand and the institutional sectors in the euro area and the largest euro area countries;
- contribute to the projections for the euro area and the largest euro area countries, in cooperation with other projections-oriented teams and national central banks;
- establish and maintain contacts with a network of experts both within and outside the ECB;
- prepare presentations and briefing materials on the euro area economic outlook for the meetings of the Governing Council, the General Council and European and international meetings attended by the Executive Board members.

Qualifications, experience and skills
- a master’s degree or equivalent in economics or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
- an addition to the above, a minimum of seven years’ relevant experience as an economist in the Division’s areas of responsibility;
- proven experience of using quantitative, statistical and econometric techniques as well as a sound knowledge of relevant economic theory for analytical purposes in the Division’s areas of responsibility;
- extensive knowledge of macroeconomic, microeconomic and survey data relating to the analysis of the euro area business cycle and of macroeconomic developments in the largest euro area countries;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- a PhD in economics or a related field and/or a publication record on relevant macroeconomic topics;
- professional experience in preparing policy-related briefing material and conducting applied analytical studies, as well as an ability to present analytical results in non-technical terms;
- experience of using state-of-the-art quantitative techniques for individual and cross-country analyses of the business cycle and/or forecasting macroeconomic developments.
