Leipzig International School is an independent non-profit day school for students from Nursery to Grade 12. It provides a high-quality international education, conducted predominantly in English, to children of all backgrounds; thereby supporting a diverse community and promoting international understanding. It operates at two locations: on Könneritzstraße (School, Grades 1 through 12) and Karl-Heine-Straße (Leipzig International Kindergarten).

We are looking for a Secondary Teacher for Chemistry/Science (m/f/d) as of 01 September 2021to join the Secondary School Science department, and to teach throughout the Secondary School including Cambridge IGCSE and the IB Diploma classes.

You will support the development and learning of children in a caring and inspiring way and recognise that an education in Science is about transferable skills as well as content. You will be part of a collaborative team that plans units and assessments together and is expected to share best practices in teaching and learning. Teachers at LIS are encouraged to work in a range of ways with their classes to allow individuals, pairs and groups to develop the analysis, evaluation, synthesis and creation of ideas through subject content. The IB Learner Profile is a guiding document in our work.

Your tasks and responsibilities:
  • Provide an excellent educational programme by creating a safe and stimulation learning environment in which the students can discover and develop their intellectual, physical, social and creative potential
  • Promote the motto of our school “learning to be a citizen of the world”, so that students develop the skills to think and act with openness to the perspectives, values and traditions of other cultures and communities, and thus develop an international understanding
  • Ensure a high-quality education in Secondary School, embracing diversity as an essential part of the learning environment while ensuring equal opportunities
  • Collaboratively plan, deliver and assess work for your classes in parallel with other department members
  • Deliver relevant, current and challenging lessons that will allow students to see how the subject you are teaching them will help them become citizens of the world who can make a difference
  • Provide fast, formative feedback through which your students can improve their understanding and develop their higher order thinking skills through the subject you are teaching them
  • Contribute to the work of the Science department and the Secondary School as a whole
  • Be part of the Secondary School initiative to develop teaching and learning in all subjects and classrooms

Your qualifications:
  • A degree in Chemistry or General Science
  • A teaching certification or qualification
  • Teaching experience in providing IB Diploma classes
  • Experience of working in an internationally-minded and diverse school community
