Your main tasks

Research activities in the Disch group are centered on the structure, magnetism, and dynamics in functional nanoscale materials. To enhance our understanding of emerging nanomagnetic materials, we combine the wet-chemical synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles and mesoscopic nanostructures with physical characterization, focussing on X-ray and neutron scattering techniques.

We are pleased to announce the opening of a PhD position in our team at the University of Duisburg-Essen. We are seeking a highly motivated researcher (f/m/d) with a Master or Diploma degree in chemistry or related subjects to conduct research in the field of defect-engineering in magnetic nanoparticles.

The project will include scattering experiments at international large-scale research facilities.

As part of this graduate position, the successful applicant will be offered ample opportunity for further academic training (leading to a PhD).

Your profile

  • Above-average university degree (1st state examination, diploma or master’s degree) in chemistry or a related field of at least 8 semesters of standard study time
  • A background in synthesis and characterization of inorganic nanoscale materials
  • Experience in X-ray or neutron scattering with an interest in crystallography is highly suited for this opportunity
  • Experience in handling data and/or programming is desired
  • Fluent in oral and written English.
  • A high degree of independence, while also encouraging interaction with colleagues

We offer you

  • an active interdisciplinary research environment between chemistry, physics and materials science
  • access to and training on state-of-the art equipment
  • a varied, diverse range of tasks
  • a broad range of further education and training opportunities
