Join The Aviation Think Tank!

Have you ever wondered what tomorrow’s air transport might look like? As the aviation think tank in Germany – consisting of young and
ambitious experts from various disciplines – our goal is to provide science-based answers. Located in Taufkirchen near Munich, we offer a
modern working environment with open ears and doors. We are always looking for passionate and creative minds to help us push today’s
boundaries to new heights. Shape the future of aviation with us today and join us as:

Researcher (m/f/d) in the Field of Process Engineering,
Chemistry or Physics: Electric Energy and Fuel Options for
a Climate-Friendly Aviation System

Our challenges: 
Searching for the most promising technical options to achieve

climate neutrality: evaluation of key performance parameters
of electric energy systems or future aviation fuel pathways 

Evaluation of production potentials, ecological and techno-
economic criteria as well as other performance indicators 

Life-cycle analysis (LCA) based on process and system
modelling for production of electrical energy systems (e.g.
batteries), green hydrogen and/or advanced sustainable
aviation fuels (SAF) from direct CO2 air capture (DAC) or
biomass, possibly linking it to climate impact metrics 

Holistic comparative evaluation of technologies and transition
pathways to 100% renewable energy in aviation 

Communication of advanced insights and recommendations
through journal publications, conferences and media channels

We need you because: 
You have successfully completed your M.Sc. and wish to

obtain a PhD 
You bring scientific creativity in combination with quantitative

analytical and programming skills to the team 
You are familiar with sustainability aspects of renewable

energy technologies and you have proven that you can work
your way into new topics 

Ideally you are already familiar with life-cycle and/or cost
analysis, production processes of batteries or synthetic fuels 

You enjoy process modelling of life-cycle pathways 
You are passionate about giving scientific answers to

introducing renewable energy and fuels in aviation 
You are interested in multidisciplinary, target-oriented tasks

within joint academic or industry projects 
You are proficient in German or English

What to expect: 
International team with a high qualification level 
Acknowledged research institution – with our feet on the

ground and our thoughts in the air 
Interdisciplinary cooperation of engineers, natural and social

scientists 
Modern working environment on the Ludwig Bölkow

Campus in Taufkirchen near Munich 
A team-oriented working culture 
