Summary & Role Information

As the product owner for the Service Mesh Security development and operations team, you will shape the security aspects of the SAP Service Mesh as part of the newly founded Platform Security Engineering unit within T&I BTP Core (formerly Cloud Platform). You will actively contribute to the success of the SAP Platform Security Engineering unit by defining and driving development topics, a joint vision, and strategy and put in place a cloud-native architecture for the security services of the SAP Service Mesh to especially ensure the availability, resilience, and stability of the service offering.

You will be part of the development organization in Europe that builds key aspects of the Service Meshs’ security, such as service identities and service-to-service access control. As such, you will keep a broad oversight and work with a diverse team of experts, architects, and engineering groups to shape the big picture, as well as individual product characteristics and define and prioritize stories of the teams’ backlogs to produce sequential deliverables that satisfy the unit larger program requirements.

We expect you to establish a close relationship with internal and external stakeholders to define and rank the overall product priorities based on their requirements, customer feedback, overall product strategy, and cloud technology developments. This includes internal alignment between all engineering groups contributing to the cloud offerings of SAP BTP Core and Product Engineering organization. You will act as a single point of contact between the business stakeholders and the customers of our products and translate business needs into technology and vice versa.

In addition, you will be responsible for the product roadmap of the development team, the alignment of backlogs from teams contributing to the Service Mesh development, clarification of product and project dependencies, and prioritize the backlog items accordingly.

Role Requirements

• Bachelor or master’s degree in information technology, computer science, business informatics, mathematics, engineering, physics, or related area
• Expertise in at least one programming language & tech stack to write maintainable, scalable, unit-tested code
• Comfortable with products based or operated on Cloud technologies such as Kubernetes/Gardener, Cloud Foundry, or Hyperscaler IaaS/PaaS native services
• Deep understanding of software engineering and systems modeling methodologies
• Experience working with technology and business stakeholders in a cross-organizational setup
• Excellent technical communication skills
• Positive mindset, team player, humble and transparent

Furthermore, preferred skills are:

• Experience in Cyber Security or development of security-related services
• Experience with Service Meshes, Istio, PKI, Open Policy Agent, GoLang
• Strong intercultural skills

Work Experience

• At least 5 years of experience in software development
• At least 2 years of experience as a Product Owner in the IT industry in an Agile development environment
