PhD position/Predoctoral fellowship (-E 13 TV-L, 65 %) in Integrated Skin Transcriptomics

The Molecular Inflammation Dermatology Group at the Department of Dermatology and Allergy of the University Hospital Kiel (Prof. Dr. Stephan Weidinger, https://www.uksh.de/dermatologie-kiel/Forschung/ has an immediate vacancy for the position of a scientific assistant (m,f,d)/predocwith the aim of obtaining a doctorate.
The group investigates molecular mechanisms of common skin diseases in diverse populations, with the aim of modeling and predicting disease manifestation and progression, and of identifying biomarkers and classifiers to (re)define disease subtypes. The group takes advantage of access to high-quality cohorts such as the POPGEN and KORA population-based cohorts, the TREATGermany atopic dermatitis registry, and a series of advanced investigator-initiated clinical studies, and integration in large-scale EU projects such as BIOMAP (www.biomap-imi.eu) and Immuniverse (www.immuniverse.eu), and applies cutting-edge sampling and profiling technologies such as microdialysis and single cell sequencing. There is a long-standing close collaboration with the Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology (www.ikmb.uni-kiel.de) and the Competence Centre for Genome Analysis Kiel (www.ccga.uni-kiel.de)

Join our team und support us from 01.11.2021, in temporary employment contract for 3 years.
We offer:
- Currently 25 hours/ week. Part-time employment may be compatible within the Framework of certain working time models.
- Salary will be commensurate at level TV-L 13 (65%) of the federal wage agreement scheme (Tarifvertrag der Länder), if the requirement of the collective agreement are met.
- Free in-house training und further education
Your job:
- The candidate will develop and apply bioinformatic and biostatistical methods for tracking temporal changes of single cells and methods to perform integrative analysis of sequencing-based genomic and clinical data.
- The successful candidate will be integrated into the multidisciplinary group.
Expected Profile:
- University degree (Masters or equivalent) in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, biology, biological sciences, or comparable
- Basic knowledge of computational analysis of large-scale biological data sets including transcriptomics (RNA-Seq) and whole genome sequencing.
- Knowledge of programming languages and software environments common to bioinformatics (Python, perl, R etc.) as well as with Unix based operating systems.
- The willingness to cooperate closely with the other members of the group including clinician scientists
- Fluent English is a requirement, German is a plus.
