The Institute of Organic Chemistry and Macromolecular Chemistry seeks to fill the position of a
PhD Position on functional dyes (m/f/d)
commencing on November 1st, 2021.
We invite highly motivated and creative applicants for a PhD position at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.The project will run in the group of Prof. Dr. Kalina Peneva. Research activities will span in the field of organic chemistry, synthesis of chromophores, their photophysical characterization and application. The work will be at the interface of chemical synthesis, biomedical applications of molecular sensors and fluorescence imaging/nanoscopy.
Your responsibilities:
- Synthesis and characterization of organic chromophores
- Application of the prepared chromophores in biological systems together with biologist and physicists
- Vivid interaction with other chemists, physicists, and biologists
- Supervision of undergraduate students
- Communication and teamwork in an international research environment
Your profile:
- Master’s degree in Chemistry (alternatively related fields e.g., Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Chemistry, Materials Science…)
- Fundamental laboratory experience and knowledge in organic chemistry.
- Ability to integrate in a team, work independently and have good organizational as well as communication skills.
- Scientific curiosity with an open attitude to work interdisciplinary in the framework of international collaborations.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken

- Remuneration based on the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector of the Federal States (TV-L) at salary scale E13 - depending on the candidate’s personal qualifications-, including a special annual payment in accordance with the collective agreement.
The advertised position is part-time (20 hours per week) at 50% and (initially) limited to for 3 and a half years, extension is possible.
