Job Title: New Product Introduction (NPI) Specialist (m/f/d)
Location: Jena, Germany
Division: Surveying
Job Summary:
NPI Specialist’s primary role is to coordinate operational activities and manage part changes throughout the entire products’ life cycles, from introduction through obsolescence. NPI Specialist is responsible for item master and BOM (Bill of Material) integrity, sourcing and manufacturing strategies, material planning and readiness for engineering, pre-production and production release builds. Ideal candidates will be able to take the initiative to drive results with minimal supervision, be solution oriented, deal with ambiguity, rapid changes in priorities and short deadlines, and have proven work experience implementing engineering changes through the development and sustaining for a wide variety of product lines. This position reports to the Operations Program Manager.
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate operational activities and manage part changes throughout the entire products’ life cycles, from introduction through obsolescence.
  • Responsible for the disposition of change orders (ECO, MCO, etc.), including the assignment of quantity and costs, physical disposition of scrap material and initiation of replacement/additional material.
  • Establish trusted relationships with internal departments and suppliers; collaborate cross-functionally to drive various operations initiatives that focus on streamlining and optimizing supply chain and cost improvements.
  • Perform BOM health scrubs at PCBA and assembly level, identifying and coordinating mitigation plans for component availability, obsolescence, lead-time, compliance (FMD, RoHS, Reach certificates availability), discouraged and sole/single sourcing issues, etc.
  • Support operational activities, ensure material readiness and support engineering/prototype builds, through pilot, pre-production ramp, and production release internally and externally (CM, ODM, suppliers, etc.) to project schedule.
  • Responsible for communicating any/all exceptions -material not on order, late deliveries, all process problems which delay cycle time, or BOM issues that may negatively impact product release schedules.
  • Participate in the development of sourcing, manufacturing and fulfillment strategies for products to meet market quality, delivery and cost requirements.
  • Participate in the product definition and the creation of configuration process, shipment packaging and documentation. Ensure the integrity of the BOM and its structure design is per the application and operational needs.
  • Responsible for the correct transactional/physical movement of engineering purchased material.
  • Responsible for the transition to production release, including the creation and submission of the production release ECO, insuring that all data elements are correctly adjusted in the item master, BOMs are accurate, documentation is available and complete.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of NPI work orders, including opening, closing, and resolving variances.
  • Owns the item master, insuring all fields of the item master are complete and correctly configured.
  • Participates in quarterly cost roll activity.

Skills & Experience Required:
  • General background in electronics and mechanical manufacturing processes such as inspection processes, fabrication processes, assembly and test processes.
  • Working knowledge of general production planning and control systems (forecasting, purchasing, inventory control, scheduling, new model/SKU development, and quality).
  • Working knowledge of developing and optimizing sourcing, manufacturing and fulfillment strategies for products to meet market quality, delivery and cost requirements.
  • Working knowledge of working with and/or managing suppliers, Sub-contract Manufacturing (i.e. Flextronics, Jabil, etc.) and ODMs.
  • Working knowledge of Trimble’s information systems (Oracle, Agile, etc.) or equivalents.
  • Demonstrates strong cross-functional collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills with all levels of associates.
  • Demonstrates strong negotiation skills with suppliers.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills. Experiences in the use of complex spreadsheets and other analytical tools.
  • Ability to influence, lead others and promote necessary changes.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities and demands.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project), Google Docs and Project Management scheduling software.

Education / Qualification:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of production planning for multi-level, highly configurable products.
  • Minimum 3 years in a NPI work environment, including leading small projects from concept to closure.
  • Minimum 3 years use of ERP and PLM databases. Preferable Agile and Oracle.
  • APICS certification preferred.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
