Job Description

Master student in the field of sensor systems / structural health monitoring for aerostructures (d/f/m)

Are you looking for a master thesis? Then apply now! We would be pleased if you support us in the area of Sensor Systems / Structural Health Monitoring as Masterand (d/f/m)!

  • Location: Manching
  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • Duration: 6 months

Are you fascinated by sensor systems that can add real value to safety? You already have experience in working with microcontrollers and would now like to take the step from your hobby workshop to a real aircraft? Then apply for this master thesis!

Military and civil aircraft are at risk of impacts, for example from hail, bird strikes or Foreign Object Damage (FOD). These impacts can cause damage to the aircraft structure that is relevant to the airworthiness and maintenance of an aircraft. These impacts are particularly critical for lightweight composite structures (e.g., CFRP). Therefore, a system is developed that evaluates sensor data regarding the occurrence of impacts. Furthermore, the position and energy of the impact will be determined to get an impression of the criticality of the damage.

Within the scope of the master thesis, a system for impact detection will be further developed. This includes the further development of the algorithms and the implementation of new functionalities, the selection and evaluation of sensors, as well as the implementation and testing on an embedded system
