St George’s School seeks a well-qualified professional to lead the Science Department in our flourishing secondary school, to start in August 2024.
The School
Serving the international community in Duisburg-Düsseldorf for over 10 years, St. George’s School combines an enriching curriculum with family orientated care. The school has grown from small beginnings into a thriving community of over 650 pupils, aged from 2-18 and representing a broad range of nationalities.
The National Curriculum is taught throughout the school, and we offer the IB Diploma in our Sixth Form.

The Location
Germany’s sixth largest city, Düsseldorf is a dynamic and vibrant cultural centre, with a large and diverse international community. Situated in the heart of Europe, Düsseldorf offers a high standard of living, as well as numerous opportunities for travel and cultural discovery.
Düsseldorf airport is located only 15km from the school, with many daily flights to the UK, and high speed rail services connect Düsseldorf to a wide range of European destinations.
The Role
We are seeking to appoint an experienced professional to lead the Science Department in our Secondary School. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and forward thinking professional, who is able to build on the excellent work of their predecessor.
The successful applicant will be a dynamic teacher with previous leadership experience. We are looking for the right balance between experience, enthusiasm and a passion for teaching and learning which will inspire students and colleagues.
Fluency in English and familiarity with the English National Curriculum are a prerequisite. A strong desire to contribute to the rich extra-curricular life of the department is also an advantage.
Given the growing and developing nature of the school, flexibility and the desire to support other team members is essential. A strong desire to contribute to the rich pastoral and extra-curricular life of the school will also be an advantage.
The Science Department promote an enthusiasm for scientific learning and an awareness of the importance of science as part of life. It delivers not only an academic understanding of science but also a functional approach. It equips students with the skills and qualifications that they will need to undertake further studies in this field.
Science is part of the core curriculum for all ages. In Middle School, students follow a course in General Science, which combines topics in Biology, Physics and Chemistry. Students take Cambridge IGCSE examinations at age 16, with most pupils studying for the double combined award. Approximately one third of pupils are offered the opportunity to take all three sciences as discrete IGCSE subjects.
