This role will be responsible for the management of the Research & Insights organisation along with the creation, distribution and maintenance of market and user knowledge across Spendesk.
You will be responsible for the research plan and its execution, feeding strategic decisions likely to bring business impact across the entire company. You are customer centric and a system thinking in their approach, consistently increasing the level of user, product and market acumen within product and cross-functionally.
You will be scaling and nurturing to further grow the existing team, and up level their processes and tooling to reach operational excellence as the company rapidly scales-up.
Work closely with other product leaders to leverage this knowledge to better inform product and growth strategies and their execution. You will also sponsor a close collaboration with all of product management, design, product marketing, and revenue applicable partners to distribute 360, readily available, reliable and unbiased user and market insights into their decision making processes.
What you will do:
Research Sense and Strategy
- Works with the CPO as well as Directors of Product Management, Product Marketing and Strategy to understand how to best inform both product and growth strategies.
- Defines and owns the entire research roadmap ; setting and delivering against OKRs and KPIs in support of company goals.
- Effective at balancing longer-range opportunities and risks with near-term execution focus.
- Deeply understands the customer and market landscape, synthesizing inputs across research, customers, marketing, and sales to identify product opportunities and unlock future growth.
- Effectively influences executive team members towards better business outcomes with critical data, customer feedback, and prior experience and relevant expertise.
Research Execution
- Institutes research processes, tooling, and resource plans to maximise impact and optimise timeliness in the execution of the research roadmap.
- Collaborates effectively with product management, design, product marketing, and revenue partners to understand existing decision making processes and routines into which to embed user and market insights.
- Will effectively manage stakeholder communication across the entire company and within the executive team.
Leadership & Communication
- Recognised by cross-functional teams as an inspiring leader within the company.
- Communicates compellingly to an internal audience of any size, increasing alignment and momentum for the company.
- Sets the standard for quality and frequency of written and verbal communication.
- Supports team members as needed, providing valuable "translation layer" to cross-functional and executive stakeholders.
- Regularly represents team and related product areas in customer-facing events and potentially through PR.
People Management
- Manages a team of Managers and Leads across various Research disciplines.
- Raises the level of market and user knowledge for the entire Product, Design and Engineering organisation.
- Consistently demonstrates conscious management of team members: developing Researchers and supporting them on their career paths.
Your Key Competencies
- 10+ years of experience in Research/Data working collaboratively with product management, design, product marketing and data engineering teams.
- 3+ years of experience hiring, managing, and developing both individual contributors and senior leaders.
- 3+ years of people management experience.
- Proven ability to navigate complex, technical, cross-functional projects from inception to completion.
- Ability to articulate defined strategy and mold consensus across many different stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Ability to handle multiple, competing priorities and projects, with a strong attention to detail.
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to dig in to complex topics.
- Critical thinking/analytical leadership experience.
- Experience presenting to senior executive audiences.
- Demonstrated thought leadership on previous areas of expertise.
- Experience in building knowledge around SaaS or mobile products.
- BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Science, Human Computer interaction or related field.
